Why doesn't it find any info for my plate?

CarInfo AR queries the official government registry of the country you're scanning in. Coverage today: Israel (data.gov.il), Netherlands (RDW), United Kingdom (DVLA). If your plate isn't in those registries — or the registry is temporarily down — the lookup will come back empty.

Make sure the country flag in the toolbar matches the plate's country. You can switch it manually from Settings → Country.

UK plates aren't working — what do I do?

UK lookups go through the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service, which requires a free API key. Go to the DVLA VES page, request a key, then paste it into the app under Settings → DVLA API key.

I tapped "Buy" to remove ads but nothing happens.

Make sure you're signed into the App Store / Google Play with a payment method on file, and that you have an internet connection. The store sheet usually appears within a second of tapping Buy.

If it still doesn't appear, force-quit and relaunch the app — the store catalog is fetched on launch and may take a moment after first install. If the problem persists, email us with your device model and OS version.

I bought "Remove ads" but the ads are still showing.

Open Settings → Premium and tap the row again. The receipt is restored automatically on every launch via Apple/Google's standard restore flow. If you still see ads after a fresh launch, email us with your purchase receipt and we'll fix it.

What does the app know about me?

Camera frames are processed entirely on-device and never leave your phone. The only thing that leaves the device is the plate text, sent to the relevant government registry over HTTPS. There are no accounts, no tracking, and no analytics on your scans. Full details in the privacy policy.

Benzih ("we", "us", or "our") built the CarInfo AR app (package: com.carinfo.ar) as a free, ad-supported application with an optional one-time in-app purchase to remove advertisements. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app accesses, how it is used, and the choices you have regarding your data.

By using CarInfo AR you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Information We Collect

CarInfo AR is designed with privacy in mind. We do not require user accounts, logins, or any form of personal registration. Below is a complete overview of the data the app accesses:

We do not collect personal information such as your name, email address, phone number, or location coordinates. We do not create user profiles or track you across apps.

2. How We Use Information

Camera images are analyzed in real time on your device to detect and read license plate text. No image data leaves your device.
Detected plate numbers are sent to the relevant government vehicle API (based on your selected country) to retrieve publicly available vehicle information.
Scan history is maintained locally so you can revisit previous lookups without re-scanning.
Preferences are stored locally to remember your chosen country and language settings between sessions.

3. Third-Party Services

CarInfo AR integrates the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy governing data it may collect:

Google AdMob — displays advertisements. May collect device identifiers, IP addresses, and usage data per Google's Privacy Policy. You may opt out of personalized ads through your device's settings.
App Store / Google Play Billing — processes the optional one-time in-app purchase. We do not collect or store your payment information.
Firebase Crashlytics & Analytics — monitors stability and anonymous usage patterns. No personally identifiable information collected. Firebase Privacy.
On-device text recognition — license plate OCR runs entirely on your device.
Government Vehicle APIs — license plate numbers are sent to:
- Israel — data.gov.il
- Netherlands — RDW Open Data
- United Kingdom — DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service

4. Data Storage & Retention

All app data is stored locally on your device. We do not operate servers that store your data.
Scan history is limited to the most recent 100 records and is stored in the app's private storage.
You can clear your scan history at any time from within the app.
Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.

We do not sell, rent, share, or transfer your data to any third party, except as described above (government API queries for vehicle lookups and AdMob for advertising).

5. Your Rights

Access & Deletion: View or delete your scan history directly within the app settings.
Camera Permission: You can revoke camera access at any time through your device's system settings.
Ad Personalization: Manage your advertising preferences through your device settings.
Uninstall: Removing the app deletes all associated local data.

6. Children's Privacy

CarInfo AR is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

8. Disclaimer

This app is NOT affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with any government entity. CarInfo AR is an independent application that retrieves publicly available vehicle data from official government open-data platforms.
